It was a cold grey morning and I was huddled up in my big coat with a long wool scarftied cosy around my neck. I work for a life insurance company. It deals in commercial and general house-hold insurance.

It is a large group ,in fact it is international. Though it must be the only life insurance company that has international status with offices in such a poxy town. I don't mind working for a life insurance company in fact I quite enjoy the assessment side of it and meeting different people . I just wish I workedin a city or town with a bit more culture and life to it.

I suppose I should be glad to have a job at all in this climate. Target are tighter but I don't mind that, I thrive on challenge.

'Morning!'

There goes Mr Butterfield he always walks like he has a mission and dresses like he's meeting the Queen. Clearly ex military. He works in Asda on the tills . He's always courteous but doesn't suffer fools. Ive seen him telling the children off for messing about on the trolleys or fiddling with the sweets at the checkout.

Well I'm nearly there, Ive been with this life insurance company fornine years now, its time for a change maybe? Ha ,the times Ive said that to myself and I'm still here.

Through the glass doors.

'Morning'

'Morning'

The usual greetings continued until I sat down at my desk.

I switched on the screen and thereis a message from my boss to see him at 9-15am. Crikey I wonder what that's about? I am sure all my reports are up to date ,my targets have been met. What can it be about. Well, I'll soon find out.

A quick coffee and it was time to see Jim my boss hes an ok guy pretty fair. Very handsome but attached. Still shouldn't think of him like that I'd always made a conscious effort not to date people from work its just so complicated and can cause problems. Though I cant deny we had feelings for each other once. It was a Christmas party and I was three years into my job. We spent the evening chatting and really enjoyed each others company . It was one of those situations where you just know that if circumstance were different we might have got together.

'Come in' Jim called after hearing my tentative knock.

'sit down sue, I have a proposition for you. We want to open a branch in London. Now I know its a far cry from Halifax but I feel you are the right person to steer the new branch. How do you fel about becoming the manager of our new London branch there will of course be..........'

Jim went on to describe the benefits package and that he didn't require an answer now. I was gobsmacked! This was a fantastic opportunity , think about it ? No way.

'I'll take it !'

Some how I didn't need my scarf cosy around my neck and I had a spring in my step because like Mr Butterfield I now had a mission.
